Customizing Spreadtables

Some forms, such as the Find Service Request form in Oracle Service, have spreadtables embedded in a bean area container.


These spreadtables display data in a spreadsheet-like format and can be modified according to user requirements. We can change the way in which data is fetched and displayed by these spreadtables by changing the predefined metadata definitions of the spreadtables. The metadata definitions can be modified  through the Spreadtable MetaData Administration window.
Let us have a look at a working example by modifing the spreadtable in the Find Service Request form above so that the labels of the first two columns are changed and the Item Description and Serial Number columns are hidden.

Open the Spreadtable MetaData Administration window from the CRM Administrator responsibility by navigating to Spreadtable>Metadata Adminstration
Query either of the two Datasources below depending on how your installation is setup(I am using the first option):
CS_SR_FIND_SERVICE_REQUEST – If incident number is entered by user
CS_SR_FIND_SERVICE_REQUEST_NUM – If incident number is system generated


Click on the Display tab and change the label of INCIDENT_NUMBER to Custom Request and SUMMARY to Custom Summary
Uncheck the Visible checkbox for Item Description and Serial Number


Save the form.
Now access the Find Service Request form and search for Service Requests. The spreadtable should look like this:


Easy, wasn’t it.

You can also limit the rows returned to the spreadtable by specifying additional search criteria in the WHERE Clause. For example, I can ensure that Service Requests pertaining to US customers only are returned to the spreadtable by specifying the appropriate condition in the WHERE Clause


A short description of the tabs and features of the Spreadtable MetaData Administration window which allow you to tweak the spreadtable according to your own requirements is given below:

Database: Use the Database tab to set column type and order, datatype, sequence, and  default sort order.
Display: Use the Display tab to set column label, visibility, display sequence, and display width.
Alignment and Formatting: Use the Alignment and Formatting tab to set type of header and cell alignment, as well as display type and format.
Custom Format Masks and Mappings: Use the Custom Format Masks and Mappings tab to set how data shows. This applies to columns with datatype of number, check box, and images. For example, a spreadtable can display data values as a percent.
Query: The Query tab is for internal use only. It is used exclusively by the Universal Work Queue.
Sort Order: Use the Sort Order tab to set the overall sort order of the columns for the spreadtable. For example, you may set the primary sort order to be alphabetical based on column A, and set a secondary sort order to be numerical based on column B if B is defined as number in the database.
Test: Use the Test tab to test the newly defined spreadtable

Fetch Size: Enter how many rows to be fetched each time. The default is set to 200 rows if it is not specified.
Lines/Rows: Number of lines per row.
